BJP Slams Rahul Gandhi Over EC Criticism, Alleges Selective Outrage

Ruling Party Accuses Congress Leader of Questioning Election Commission Only After Electoral Losses

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a sharp counterattack against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday, accusing him of selectively targeting the Election Commission (EC) with allegations of bias whenever the Congress faces electoral setbacks. In a fiery rebuttal, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra stated, “Rahul keeps questioning the EC, but has no questions when Congress wins,” highlighting what the party claims is a pattern of inconsistent criticism from the opposition leader.

The controversy erupted following Gandhi’s recent remarks questioning the impartiality and functioning of the Election Commission, particularly in the context of recent electoral processes. The Congress leader has repeatedly raised concerns over the EC’s handling of polls, alleging irregularities and lack of transparency. However, the BJP dismissed these claims as politically motivated, asserting that Gandhi’s criticisms surface only when election results are unfavorable to his party.

“Whenever Congress loses, Rahul Gandhi starts attacking the Election Commission. But when they win, he remains silent. This hypocrisy exposes their agenda,” Patra said during a press conference in New Delhi. He further challenged Gandhi to provide concrete evidence to support his allegations, calling the remarks an attempt to undermine democratic institutions.

The BJP’s response comes amid heightened political tensions, with the opposition, led by the Congress, intensifying its scrutiny of the EC’s operations. The INDIA alliance, of which Congress is a key member, has been vocal about issues such as voter list discrepancies and the conduct of free and fair elections. In contrast, the ruling party has accused the opposition of eroding public trust in constitutional bodies for political mileage.

Political analysts view this exchange as part of a broader narrative battle ahead of upcoming elections. The BJP’s pointed rebuttal aims to shift focus back to the Congress’s electoral performance, while the opposition continues to push for greater accountability from the EC. As the war of words escalates, the Election Commission has yet to issue an official response to the ongoing controversy.

This latest spat underscores the deepening divide between the ruling party and the opposition, with both sides leveraging institutional trust as a key talking point in their political campaigns.
