Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the central government, questioning the recurring failures of intelligence agencies following the devastating car blast near Delhi’s historic Red Fort that claimed at least eight lives and injured dozens. Speaking at a press conference in Lucknow, Yadav sarcastically expressed “full faith” in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assurance that the conspirators behind the explosion would soon be uncovered and face stringent action.”
Our Prime Minister has said that it will soon be uncovered who is behind this conspiracy and stringent action will be taken against them,” Yadav remarked. “We have full faith that the Prime Minister and the government will definitely reveal who is behind this, because of whom such a big incident happened at our capital, our symbol, from where the Prime Minister gives a speech on Independence Day… Why has our intelligence failed every time?”
The SP chief’s remarks come a day after the deadly explosion on Monday evening, which occurred in a high-security zone near the Red Fort Metro Station – the very site from where the Prime Minister addresses the nation every Independence Day. The blast, suspected to involve a car rigged with explosives, has sent shockwaves across the country, raising serious concerns about security in the national capital.
Yadav highlighted the irony of the incident occurring at a symbolically significant location, emphasizing that the Red Fort represents India’s unity and sovereignty. He demanded a thorough and transparent investigation, stressing that the government must explain how such a breach could happen despite heightened security protocols in Delhi.

The explosion has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), with preliminary probes pointing towards possible terror links. Sources indicate that Delhi Police are examining the suspect’s movements, connections to a university network in Faridabad, and the type of explosives used. Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level security review meeting, directing a comprehensive probe involving NSG teams and CCTV footage analysis.
Opposition leaders across parties have echoed calls for accountability. Congress and other allies have demanded answers on intelligence lapses, while Yadav’s pointed sarcasm underscores growing frustration over similar past incidents that exposed vulnerabilities in national security.
In his statement, Yadav extended condolences to the victims’ families and wished speedy recovery to the injured. He urged the government to reassure the public by swiftly bringing the perpetrators to justice and implementing measures to prevent future breaches.
The incident has intensified political scrutiny on the NDA government, especially amid ongoing elections in Bihar and heightened security alerts nationwide. Yadav’s critique aligns with broader opposition narratives questioning the effectiveness of intelligence apparatus under the current regime.
As investigations unfold, the nation awaits clarity on the motive – whether a lone act or part of a larger conspiracy. The blast serves as a grim reminder of the persistent threats facing India, prompting calls for strengthened vigilance and reforms in security protocols.
Prime Minister Modi has vowed that those responsible “will not be spared,” assuring the public of a decisive response. Meanwhile, Delhi remains on high alert, with enhanced checks at key landmarks.
Yadav concluded by reiterating that national security transcends politics, but accountability is essential to restore public trust. His remarks have sparked debates on governance and intelligence efficacy, amplifying demands for a detailed parliamentary discussion on the matter. The tragic event has united voices in grief while exposing fault lines in political discourse over safety and responsibility.
