Action Pending in ₹16 Crore Corruption Case Linked to Budhasagar–Ranisagar Beautification Project

Allegations of corruption worth nearly ₹16 crore in the Budhasagar–Ranisagar beautification works have once again come into focus, with former councillor and social activist Hemant Ostwal writing a strongly worded letter to Mayor Madhusudan Yadav, seeking clarity and immediate action.

Ostwal pointed out that during the Rajnandgaon Municipal Corporation’s General House meeting held on August 25, 2022, a unanimous resolution was passed to register an FIR and take action against those found guilty, based on an inquiry report. The decision, listed under Agenda Item No. 17, was formally adopted by the House. However, more than three years later, no concrete action has been taken in the matter.

In his letter, Ostwal expressed concern that despite the Bharatiya Janata Party being in power at the municipal, state and central levels, the case continues to remain in limbo. He alleged that the corruption took place in violation of government norms due to alleged collusion between municipal officials and contractors—an issue that was acknowledged by the General House itself while approving the resolution for legal action.

With the end of 2025 and the beginning of the new year 2026, Ostwal has urged the Mayor to act in the interest of the city and governance by ensuring transparent and decisive action against the guilty. He warned that continued silence and delay could compel the public to believe that there are underlying reasons behind the inaction.

The former councillor appealed to the Mayor to dispel all doubts by bringing the truth before the public and exposing the roots of the alleged corruption. He stressed that immediate legal action is necessary to uphold public trust and reinforce accountability in civic administration.
