Basantpur police nab accused involved in burglary case; sent to judicial custody after interrogation

Basantpur police station in Rajnandgaon district arrested an absconding accused involved in a housebreaking case and sent him to judicial custody. The accused had been on the run since the incident and was apprehended following specific intelligence inputs received by the police.
Burglary Reported After Family Left Home
According to police information, complainant Vatan Singh Rajput, a resident of Nandai Chowk, had lodged a report on March 4, 2026, stating that he had gone to Mohla with his family after locking his house. During their absence, unidentified persons broke into the house and stole gold ornaments, a mobile phone and other valuables kept in an almirah.
Based on the complaint, Basantpur police registered Crime No. 110/2026 and initiated an investigation.
Four Accused Earlier Arrested
During the course of investigation, police had already arrested four accused — Shankar Rajak alias Bantha, Nikhil Dhimar alias Nikku, Alok Bhojpuri and Suresh Dhimar alias Surju. Gold ornaments worth approximately ₹5.72 lakh were recovered from their possession earlier.
Absconding Accused Traced and Arrested
Another accused in the case, Premdas Manikpuri alias Dabka (22), a resident of Dhimarpara under Basantpur police station limits, had been absconding since the incident.
Police received information about his presence in Rajnandgaon city and immediately launched an operation leading to his arrest.
Cash and Vehicle Used in Crime Seized
During interrogation, the accused confessed to committing the theft along with his associates. Police recovered ₹8,000 in cash and seized the scooty used in executing the crime.
The accused was formally arrested and produced before the court, which remanded him to jail under judicial custody.
Police Team Appreciated
The successful operation was carried out under the leadership of Station House Officer Inspector Aman Sahu along with other officers and personnel of Basantpur police station, whose efforts were appreciated for effectively resolving the case.
