Demonstrating zero tolerance towards disturbances to law and order, Chikhli Police Outpost in Rajnandgaon has carried out a major enforcement action by arresting a long-absconding accused involved in an assault over gambling money, while also initiating preventive proceedings against five known miscreants in the area.
According to police sources, a complaint was lodged at Chikhli Outpost on October 18, 2025, in which the complainant alleged that the accused, Dharmendra Talakai, demanded money to gamble late at night. When the complainant refused, the accused allegedly abused him, threatened to kill him and assaulted him with fists. Based on the complaint, a case was registered under Sections 296, 115(2), 351(2) and 119(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Following the incident, the accused remained absconding for a prolonged period. Considering the seriousness of the offence, a special team was formed under the direction of Superintendent of Police Ms Ankita Sharma, guidance of Additional Superintendent of Police Mr Pushpendra Nayak, and supervision of City Superintendent of Police Ms Vaishali Jain (IPS). Continuous efforts were made to trace the accused.
During a recent combing patrol, police received reliable information that the accused was hiding at his residence. Acting swiftly, the team cordoned off the area and arrested Dharmendra Talakai alias Kaushal, son of Uday Raganna (23), a resident of Ward No. 12, Solah Kholi, Station Para, under Chikhli Outpost jurisdiction. Police stated that the accused has a criminal history with multiple cases registered against him. After due legal procedure, he was produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
In the same operation, police also took preventive action against five other individuals—Rama Pardhi, Pradeep Pardhi, Dilip Yadav, Jitendra Yadav and Guha alias Basant Nishad—on apprehension of breach of peace. They were booked separately under Sections 170, 126 and 135(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and produced before the competent court.
