Rajnandgaon district is set to witness a significant industrial milestone with the proposed establishment of a gas-based fertiliser plant, a development attributed to the foresight and sustained efforts of Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker and Rajnandgaon MLA Dr Raman Singh. Welcoming the move, Mayor Madhusudan Yadav described the project as another “invaluable gift” by Dr Singh to the people of the district.

The Mayor informed that on December 23, in the presence of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai in Raipur, the Chhattisgarh government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) for the development of a greenfield gas-based fertiliser project in the state. The proposed project envisages the establishment of a urea manufacturing plant with an annual capacity of 12.7 lakh metric tonnes at an estimated cost of ₹10,500 crore.

Strategically located along GAIL’s Mumbai–Nagpur–Jharsuguda Natural Gas Pipeline (MNJPL) corridor, the plant is proposed to be set up in Rajnandgaon district, following consistent efforts by Dr Raman Singh to bring large-scale industrial investment to the region.

Highlighting the long-term benefits of the project, Mayor Madhusudan Yadav said the fertiliser plant would have multi-dimensional positive impacts. “This agreement with GAIL will directly accelerate the state’s economic and industrial development, ensure easy availability of affordable and quality fertilisers for farmers in local markets, and create thousands of employment opportunities for the youth of Chhattisgarh,” he said.

He further asserted that once the project is operational, Rajnandgaon would gain national recognition as a petrochemical fertiliser-producing city, marking a new chapter in its industrial identity. The Mayor credited Dr Raman Singh’s vision for positioning Rajnandgaon as a future industrial hub in the fertiliser and petrochemical sector.

Expressing gratitude, Mayor Yadav thanked Assembly Speaker Dr Raman Singh, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Commerce and Industry Minister Lakhan Lal Dewangan, and Rajnandgaon MP Santosh Pandey for their direct and indirect contributions in bringing the prestigious project to the district.
