In a significant step toward ensuring a fair and inclusive electoral process, the Rajnandgaon district administration convened a crucial meeting with representatives of recognized political parties to discuss the rationalization of polling stations and the upcoming Special Summary Revision (SSR) of the electoral roll, with the qualifying date set for January 1, 2025. The meeting, held at the Collector’s office, focused on enhancing the accuracy and inclusivity of the voter list, ensuring that every eligible citizen can exercise their democratic right in the upcoming elections.

The discussion centered on the directives issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI), which emphasize updating the electoral roll to include new voters, particularly those in the 18-19 age group, and removing discrepancies such as duplicate, deceased, or shifted voters. The Rajnandgaon administration outlined plans to organize special camps at each of the district’s 2,330 polling stations to facilitate voter registration and address claims and objections. These camps, scheduled for November 9, 10, 16, and 17, 2024, aim to maximize voter enrollment and ensure the voter list reflects the current demographic reality.

The rationalization of polling stations was a key agenda item, with the administration presenting proposals to optimize the location and accessibility of polling centers across Rajnandgaon’s eight assembly constituencies, including Pandariya, Kawardha, Khairagarh, and others. The ECI has approved 12 new polling stations, four building changes, two location shifts, and 17 section renaming changes to enhance voter convenience, particularly in rural areas where 2,037 of the district’s polling stations are located. These changes aim to streamline the voting process and ensure equitable access for all, especially in remote regions.

Political party representatives were urged to collaborate with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to encourage eligible voters to submit enumeration forms and necessary documents by the deadline of November 28, 2024. The administration emphasized the importance of verifying Absentee, Shifted, and Deceased (ASD) voter lists to eliminate discrepancies and prevent fraudulent voting. “Our goal is to create a transparent and error-free electoral roll. We seek the cooperation of all political parties to make this process inclusive and effective,” said a senior district official.

The meeting also highlighted the role of technology in the revision process, with BLOs instructed to use digital platforms to update voter data and ensure real-time monitoring. The final publication of the electoral roll is scheduled for January 6, 2025, following the resolution of all claims and objections by December 24, 2024. Political parties assured full support, pledging to mobilize their workers to raise awareness and assist voters in completing the registration process.

This initiative underscores Rajnandgaon’s commitment to strengthening India’s democratic framework. By prioritizing voter inclusion and polling station accessibility, the district is setting a model for transparent and participatory elections, ensuring that every voice is heard in the democratic process.
