Crackdown on Fertilizer Black Marketing: Two Shopkeepers Booked Agriculture Department

According to Deputy Director of Agriculture Mr. Tikam Singh Thakur, two separate cases of unauthorized and overpriced sale of urea have come to light. Both incidents involve grocery shop owners who were found selling fertilizers without licenses and at rates above the government-fixed price.

The first incident occurred in village Kallubanjari of Chhuriya block, where a raid was conducted at Patel Kirana Store. The store was allegedly selling urea to farmers illegally and at higher prices. A joint team comprising officials from the agriculture, revenue, and police departments conducted the raid and initiated legal action.

In the second case, similar irregularities were reported at Sahu Kirana Store in village Bargahi of Rajnandgaon block. Acting swiftly on the complaint, a joint team raided the store and seized 61 bags of urea, 3 bags of MOP (Muriate of Potash), and 3 bags of Sagarika fertilizer. Both shopkeepers were found to be violating provisions under the Essential Commodities Act, and FIRs have been registered accordingly.

Mr. Thakur reassured that chemical fertilizers are being regularly supplied to farmers through cooperative societies across the district. He appealed to the farmers not to purchase fertilizers from unauthorized sellers or pay inflated prices. He further urged them to report any such malpractices to their block’s Senior Agricultural Development Officer or the Fertilizer Inspector’s office.

Prompt action will be taken on every complaint, he assured.

The raids involved Assistant Director of Agriculture Mrs. Sandhya Kochre, Fertilizer Inspector Mrs. Ramshila Gaurkar, Field Officer Mrs. Neelima Ramteke, Branch In-charge Mr. Mithlesh Sahu, and from the Revenue Department, Patwari Mr. Vikas Vasanik. Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer Mr. Santlal Deshlahare and Fertilizer Inspector Mr. G.P. Sahade were also part of the enforcement team.
