Collector Chairs Red Cross Executive Meeting, Proposes New Blood Bank and Membership Drive

A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Indian Red Cross Society, Rajnandgaon branch, was held on Monday under the chairmanship of Collector and Society President Dr. Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure at the Collectorate conference hall.

Emphasizing the humanitarian mission of the Red Cross, Dr. Bhure stated that the organization must strengthen its grassroots presence and expand public participation. He directed officials to submit proposals for the establishment of a district blood bank and also discussed procurement of necessary medical equipment through the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) fund.

The Collector further instructed the submission of a proposal for land and building allocation to establish a permanent office for the Red Cross Society in Rajnandgaon. To enhance the Society’s financial sustainability, he called for action to recover pending rents from shops leasing Red Cross-owned properties.

Dr. Bhure stressed the importance of a district-wide membership campaign and urged officials to actively encourage citizens to join the Red Cross Society. He also reviewed the functioning of Junior and Youth Red Cross activities, the Jan Aushadhi Kendras, and the Society’s participation in the Nikshay Mitra TB eradication program.

Additionally, instructions were issued to organize a mega health camp under the Red Cross banner to benefit rural and underprivileged populations.

Dr. Netaram Navratan, Chief Medical and Health Officer and Secretary of the Red Cross Rajnandgaon, briefed the committee on recent activities. These included free health check-ups and distribution of nutrition kits to pregnant women and children in Dongargaon under the Poshan Abhiyan.

In terms of humanitarian assistance, the Society provided ₹25,000 in travel aid to Shri Mulchand Nirmalkar for treatment in Vellore, ₹4 lakh to Vidya Sagode for kidney treatment, and financial support to other patients in need. Blood donation drives, tree plantation programs, and first-aid training for vehicle drivers were also organized.

The meeting saw the presence of senior administrative and civil officials, including Additional Collector Mr. C.L. Markandeya, Joint Collector Mrs. Sheetal Bansal, District Education Officer Mr. Pravas Singh Baghel, Civil Surgeon Dr. U.K. Chandravanshi, and several other dignitaries, journalists, and Red Cross representatives.
