Rajnandgaon Police Reviews 395 Acquittal Cases, Finds Investigation Errors in 11 Cases

28 Cases Found Fit for Appeal; IG Ajay Kumar Yadav Stresses Quality Investigation and Effective Prosecution

A review meeting of acquittal cases was held at the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Rajnandgaon Range, on Monday under the direction of the Inspector General of Police. The meeting focused on examining lapses in investigation and prosecution in acquittal cases in accordance with the directions of the Supreme Court.

The review was conducted in the context of the order passed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court in Criminal Appeal No. 1485/08, State of Gujarat vs Kishan Bhai.

395 Acquittal Cases Reviewed

During the meeting, a total of 395 acquittal cases were reviewed in accordance with the directions of the court.

The cases included 208 matters from May 2026 and 187 matters from June 2026. The review focused on identifying shortcomings in investigation and prosecution proceedings that may have contributed to the acquittal of accused persons.

Following a detailed examination, 11 cases were found to involve errors on the part of the investigating officers, while 28 cases were identified as fit for appeal.

The findings are expected to help identify shortcomings in the investigation and prosecution process and strengthen the handling of criminal cases before the courts.

IG Ajay Kumar Yadav Stresses Quality Investigation

During the review, Rajnandgaon Range Inspector General of Police Ajay Kumar Yadav held detailed discussions on effective and quality investigation of criminal cases.

He also reviewed important aspects related to prosecution and the steps required for the successful disposal of cases before the courts.

The IGP stressed the need for investigating officers to ensure that criminal investigations are conducted effectively, systematically and in accordance with legal requirements.

He directed the concerned prosecution officers to ensure effective representation in pending court cases and called for special attention to increasing the conviction rate.

The emphasis remained on strengthening coordination between investigation and prosecution so that cases are presented effectively before the judiciary.

Officials Present at the Review Meeting

Several senior prosecution and police officials attended the meeting.

Those present included D.K. Jain, In-charge Joint Director/Deputy Director of Prosecution, Rajnandgaon Range; Kularanjan Kujur, Deputy Director of Prosecution, Kabirdham district; Sunil Kumar Rathore, Assistant District Prosecution Officer, Khairagarh; and Lalit Sahu, Assistant District Prosecution Officer, Ambagarh Chowki.

From the Inspector General of Police’s office, Additional Superintendent of Police Geeta Wadhwani and Deputy Superintendent of Police Navi Monica Pandey were also present.

The review meeting underlined the importance of identifying investigation-related shortcomings, strengthening prosecution efforts and ensuring effective presentation of criminal cases before the courts.
