Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary and Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha In-Charge Shahid Bhai has criticised the state government over the condition of healthcare services, alleging that government hospitals are facing a severe shortage of essential medicines and medical supplies, causing hardship to the general public.
Allegations of Medicine Shortage in Government Hospitals
Shahid Bhai stated that only a limited number of essential medicines meant for district hospitals, community health centres, and primary health centres are actually reaching medical facilities. As a result, patients are being compelled to purchase medicines from private medical stores at their own expense.
He said the situation has placed an additional financial burden on common citizens who depend primarily on government healthcare institutions for treatment.
Lack of Life-Saving Medicines Raised as Major Concern
According to Shahid Bhai, healthcare department norms require hospitals to maintain adequate stocks of life-saving medicines. However, he alleged that there is an ongoing shortage of several commonly used medicines, including antibiotics, malaria drugs, paracetamol, ORS, iron supplements, and medicines required for pregnant women.
He claimed that the lack of availability of these essential medicines is directly affecting patient care and treatment outcomes across the state.
Medical Equipment Supply Also Questioned
The Congress leader further alleged that medical colleges and hospitals are not receiving sufficient medical equipment and supplies, which is adversely impacting healthcare services and operational efficiency in government institutions.
Demand for Immediate Government Action
Shahid Bhai demanded that the state government immediately ensure adequate availability of essential medicines and medical facilities at district hospitals, community health centres, and primary health centres. He warned that if corrective measures are not taken soon, the Congress party would be compelled to launch an agitation on the issue.
