Gang allegedly duped young men using fake profiles and marriage proposals; police urge public to verify online matrimonial offers before making payments

Fake Marriage Bureau Scam Exposed
Police have busted an organized fraud racket operating under the name “Love Life Rishte Marriage Bureau” in Basantpur police station limits, arresting three more accused involved in cheating young men. Earlier, the main operator and two other accused had already been arrested and sent to jail in connection with the case.
Police investigation revealed that the accused downloaded photographs of women from the internet, created fake profiles, and shared them with unsuspecting youths through WhatsApp to lure them into marriage proposals.
Modus Operandi: Fake Profiles and Financial Fraud
According to the investigation, victims were convinced through fabricated matrimonial profiles and later asked to pay money under various heads such as registration charges, premium packages, and family meeting arrangements. Large sums were allegedly collected before victims realized they had been cheated.
Police Investigation and Initial Arrests
The entire fraud came to light following a confidential tip received by Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma. Acting on the information, Additional Superintendent of Police Kirtan Rathore and City Superintendent of Police Vaishali Jain conducted preliminary inquiries.
After confirmation of the offence, a case was registered at Basantpur Police Station and a detailed investigation was initiated. During the course of investigation, the main operator Neha Pathak and Director Dharmendra Manikpuri were earlier arrested and sent to judicial custody.
Three More Accused Arrested
Continuing the investigation, police received information that other accused were hiding in Kabirdham district. A special police team was formed and dispatched to Kabirdham, where Tamradhwaj Manikpuri and Siyaram Sahu were arrested. Another accused, Shrishti Goswami, was taken into custody from Rajnandgaon.
During interrogation, all three accused reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime. They were formally arrested and produced before the court, which subsequently sent them to jail. Police stated that efforts are ongoing to trace other accused linked to the case.
Police Team Commended for Action
Inspector Aman Sahu, Station House Officer of Basantpur Police Station, along with other officers and staff members of the police team, played a commendable role in the successful operation.
Public Advisory Issued
Police have appealed to citizens to remain cautious while dealing with online marriage bureaus, social media, or WhatsApp-based matrimonial proposals. Authorities advised the public not to make any payment without proper verification and to immediately inform the nearest police station about any suspicious activity.
