In a decisive move to strengthen its financial position, the Rajnandgaon Municipal Corporation has intensified its revenue recovery drive by publicly releasing a detailed list of property tax defaulters. The list includes several prominent individuals and entities with pending dues ranging from ₹95,000 to over ₹6 lakh.
Despite repeated notices, appeals, and the introduction of rebate schemes, a significant number of taxpayers failed to clear their dues, prompting the civic body to adopt stricter measures. Officials have now made it clear that the phase of warnings is over, and concrete recovery actions will follow.
Financial Strain on Civic Administration
Property tax remains one of the primary sources of revenue for the municipal corporation. However, non-payment by a large section of taxpayers has adversely affected its financial health. Even with government grants, the corporation is facing mounting pressure in maintaining essential civic services such as sanitation, road maintenance, water supply, and street lighting.
From Notices to Public Disclosure
Before taking this step, the corporation had issued multiple notices, warned of penalties and surcharges, and even rolled out incentive schemes to encourage payments. With limited response, authorities have now placed the names of defaulters in the public domain to create social accountability and pressure.

Panic Among Defaulters, Administration Firm
The publication of the list has reportedly created a stir among defaulters across the city. With the financial year nearing its end, the corporation’s aggressive stance signals its seriousness towards enforcing fiscal discipline. Notably, Mayor Madhusudan Yadav has maintained a non-interventionist approach, allowing officials to carry out recovery operations independently.
The civic body’s move reflects a clear intent to boost revenue collection and ensure adequate resources for improving basic urban infrastructure. With a large-scale recovery अभियान likely in the coming days, the pressure is mounting on defaulters to comply, as the administration shows no signs of backing down.
