Workshop on Organic Farming Concludes in Chhattisgarh Barbarika Truth

RAJNANDGAON (BTI) – In recent times, people have started to recognize the significance of organic farming. From every perspective, it is a healthier and more advantageous practice. In this context, on January 17, 2025, the Chhattisgarh Council of Science and Technology (Raipur), in collaboration with Pt. Shiv Kumar Shastri Agriculture College and Research Center (Surgi, Rajnandgaon), organized a one-day state-level workshop and farmer symposium. The event, conducted under the successful guidance of Dr. Akhilesh Tripathi, Scientist, Chhattisgarh Council of Science and Technology, focused on the theme, “Organic Farming for Soil Protection and Quality in Chhattisgarh: Opportunities and Prospects.”

Farmers from remote areas, including villages like Khursipar and Murethitola in the Ambagarh Chowki block, participated in the program under the Farmers FIRST project funded by the central government.

The workshop was graced by several dignitaries, including:

Dr. (Mrs.) Vinmrata Jain, Dean and Principal Investigator of the Farmers FIRST Project, Rajnandgaon,
Dr. Alok Tiwari, Dean of Agriculture College, Saja, Bemetara (Chief Guest),
Dr. Umesh Deshmukh, Dean of Horticulture College, Rajnandgaon (Special Guest),
Dr. (Mrs.) Gunjan Jha, Senior Scientist and Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Surgi, Rajnandgaon, and
Dr. Jayalakshmi Ganguly, Professor and Former Dean, Agriculture College, Rajnandgaon (Chairperson).
The program was coordinated by Dr. Lalit Ramteke and Dr. Abhay Bisen, while the event proceedings were conducted by Dr. Shivaji Limje. Faculty members, staff, and students from the college actively participated in the event.

During the technical sessions, subject matter experts delivered lectures on various aspects of organic farming, emphasizing its future utility and importance. The workshop concluded with the distribution of certificates to participating farmers and students.

The program provided valuable insights into the potential and benefits of organic farming in enhancing soil quality and fostering sustainable agricultural practices in Chhattisgarh.

Farmers adopting crop diversification under the PM-AASHA Krishak Unnati Yojana will receive an incentive of ₹15,000 per acre.
