India’s Vice President Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan today inaugurated the newly constructed Swargiya Jugal Kishore Sarda Memorial Udayachal Multispeciality Eye Care and Research Institute in Rajnandgaon. The inauguration ceremony was held in the presence of Governor Shri Ramen Deka, Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai, Speaker Dr. Raman Singh, School Education Minister Shri Gajendra Yadav, and Health & Family Welfare Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal.
After the formal inauguration, the Vice President visited various departments of the institute, interacted with doctors and staff, and reviewed the available clinical facilities. He also distributed assistive health devices to patients and conveyed his best wishes for their recovery and well-being.
Prominent dignitaries including Mayor Shri Madhusudan Yadav, Former MP Shri Abhishek Singh, Divisional Commissioner Shri Satyanarayan Rathore, IG Shri Abhishek Shandilya, Collector Shri Jitendra Yadav, SP Smt. Ankita Sharma, Padma Shri Dr. Pukhraj Bafna, and members of Udayachal Trust were present.
Charitable Health Services of Udayachal Institute
The Udayachal organization provides low-cost and charitable health services to the community.
Daily patient care includes:
- 300 OPD patients in Ophthalmology
- 60–80 patients in Physiotherapy
- 30 patients in Dentistry
- Screening and Homeopathy services
The institution has played a significant role in nutritional rehabilitation, supporting 3,000 malnourished children and 2,400 pregnant women in Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai region by providing supplementary nutrition.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the institute operated an isolation centre and vaccination unit. Under the “War Against TB” campaign, nearly 1,000 TB patients received nutritional support.
The institute has so far conducted:
- 9,17,062 eye screenings
- 90,132 eye surgeries (including cataract)
- 2,12,599 physiotherapy treatments
- 23,441 dental treatments
- 39,242 homeopathy consultations
Free surgeries include accommodation, meals, medicines, spectacles, and upon discharge, a bed-sheet, plate, and glass are gifted to patients.

Ceremonial Welcome at PTS Helipad
Earlier in the day, the Vice President arrived at the Police Training School (PTS) Helipad, where he was warmly received by Governor Shri Ramen Deka, Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai, and Speaker Dr. Raman Singh. Senior public representatives, district officials, and security personnel were present amidst well-organized and tight security arrangements.
Visit to Speaker House
During his visit, Vice President Radhakrishnan was hosted at the Speaker House, where Speaker Dr. Raman Singh and dignitaries accorded a traditional welcome. Smt. Veena Singh performed Aarti and Tilak as part of the customary reception. A courtesy dinner was organized in his honour, attended by state ministers, senior officials, and public representatives.
