In Litia village under Rajnandgaon development block, villagers had been making collective efforts to safeguard their crops and prevent road accidents by arranging fodder and water for nearly 30–35 stray cattle inside the village Gauthan. However, the situation took a serious turn after unidentified individuals shifted around 72 additional cattle into the facility, creating disorder and overcrowding.

Following continuous rainfall in recent days, the overcrowded conditions in the Gauthan led to the outbreak of pneumonia, causing the sudden death of four cattle. The Department of Animal Husbandry promptly treated the remaining livestock to prevent further casualties.

To ensure proper management and protection of the cattle, the district administration has instructed their relocation to nearby Gaushalas, including Yashoda Gaushala Sukuldaihan, Shri Krishna Gaushala Dongargarh, Pinjrapole Gaushala, Bajrang Dal-operated Gaushala, and Maa Banjari Gaushala Bargahi.

With the support of the Municipal Corporation’s cow catchers, along with the Panchayat and Rural Development Department, the process of relocation has already begun. As of now, 28 cattle have been shifted to Yashoda Gaushala Sukuldaihan, 10 to Pinjrapole Gaushala, and 5 to Bajrang Dal’s Gaushala. The relocation of the remaining cattle is underway.

The administration has further clarified that owners of cattle with identification tags, who irresponsibly release their animals into open areas, will face penal and legal action.

The initiative highlights the combined efforts of villagers, government departments, and local organizations in addressing the growing problem of stray cattle, which not only affects agriculture but also poses risks of road accidents and animal welfare concerns.
