The 150th birth anniversary of India’s Iron Man, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Rajnandgaon through a Unity March that began from the International Hockey Stadium. The march, organized to honor Patel’s legacy of national integration, saw active participation from public representatives, youth, students, and citizens. The rally traversed through Gaurav Path, Swami Vivekananda Chowk, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Chowk, concluding at the Gurudwara amid resonant patriotic chants and traditional drumbeats.
Addressing the concluding ceremony, Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh paid rich tributes to Sardar Patel’s immense contribution in unifying the nation post-independence. “Before independence, India had 565 princely states, each with its own flag and identity. Through his determination and diplomatic acumen, Sardar Patel integrated these states into one nation,” he said. Dr. Singh described Patel’s ideals as a guiding light for future generations, reinforcing the values of unity, integrity, and social harmony.

Dr. Singh further emphasized that Patel’s message of “We are one, and in unity lies the nation’s strength” must continue to inspire the youth. On this occasion, he also led the gathering in taking pledges for a self-reliant and drug-free India.
Member of Parliament Santosh Pandey also addressed the event, recalling Patel’s crucial role in integrating princely states such as Junagadh and Hyderabad into the Indian Union. “Sardar Patel’s life was one of struggle, sacrifice, and service. His vision of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ remains the foundation of national unity,” he stated.
Mayor Madhusudan Yadav, speaking on the occasion, remembered Patel as the country’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, whose leadership and commitment shaped India’s early governance and unity.
