The Baiga tribal community residing in the remote forest village of Shivlakhar in the Achanakmar region of Mungeli district has received major relief from a prolonged drinking water crisis due to the prompt and sensitive intervention of the district administration. Regular water supply has now been restored after a malfunctioning solar pump was repaired and made operational again.
It is noteworthy that Chhattisgarh Government Principal Secretary Mr. Sonmani Bora was on a visit to Mungeli district. During the visit, he, along with Collector Mr. Kundan Kumar, held a chaupal interaction with villagers in Shivlakhar, a dependent village under Gram Panchayat Achanakmar. During the interaction, villagers placed their problems and demands before the Principal Secretary.
Villagers Highlighted Water Crisis During Chaupal

The villagers informed officials that out of the two dual solar pumps installed under the Jal Jeevan Mission, one had remained non-functional for several months. As a result, residents, particularly members of the Baiga tribe, were forced to travel long distances to fetch drinking water. The problem had become even more severe during the summer season.
Taking serious note of the issue, Principal Secretary Mr. Bora directed the Public Health Engineering Department to take immediate action on the spot.
Swift Coordination Restores Water Supply
Following the instructions, the department coordinated with the CREDA department and quickly replaced the damaged solar pump and restored its functioning. With the repair work completed, regular water supply has resumed in the village, bringing relief and happiness among the residents.
Women and children of the Baiga community, who were the most affected by the water shortage, no longer have to struggle daily for drinking water. Villagers expressed gratitude towards the government and district administration, stating that the timely intervention provided them significant relief from the crisis.
