Focus on Reducing Accidents by Rectifying Black Spots and Enhancing Traffic Awareness

A crucial meeting of the District Road Safety Committee was held today in the Collectorate Conference Hall under the chairmanship of Member of Parliament Santosh Pandey. The meeting aimed to discuss strategies to reduce road accidents in the district and ensure enhanced road safety for the public.
MP Santosh Pandey emphasized the need for a comprehensive and practical action plan to minimize road accidents. He also stressed the importance of spreading traffic awareness among the general public through targeted campaigns.
District Collector Dr. Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure expressed concern over the increase in road accidents this year compared to the previous year. He highlighted that corrective measures at all identified black spots could significantly reduce accident numbers. The collector instructed relevant departments to expedite repairs and improvements at these accident-prone locations.

Dr. Bhure also directed the installation of proper signage at all major intersections and crossings to aid commuters and prevent mishaps. Furthermore, he ordered strict action against traffic rule violators, especially those driving under the influence of alcohol or at excessive speeds.
He added that it is necessary to sensitize school and college students about traffic rules and cleanliness. “Educational institutions must actively promote awareness among students not only about road safety but also about the physical, financial, and social harms caused by substance abuse,” he said.
Additional Superintendent of Police Rahul Dev Sharma informed the committee that awareness campaigns and action plans are already in place to curb traffic violations. He provided updates on ongoing initiatives related to traffic regulation, parking management, and enforcement. He also mentioned steps being taken to prevent animal trafficking in the region.
Representatives from the police department, transport department, municipal corporation, Public Works Department (PWD), NHAI, PMGSY, health, and education departments gave detailed presentations on the actions being undertaken to tackle road accidents.
The meeting was attended by MLA Harshita Baghel, Divisional Forest Officer Ayush Jain, Municipal Commissioner Atul Vishwakarma, and other senior officials from various departments.
