Congress leader alleges Centre’s tax policies responsible for fuel price rise and increasing financial burden on households.

Senior spokesperson of the State Congress Committee, Kamaljeet Singh Pintu, has launched a sharp attack on the Central Government over rising inflation across the country. He alleged that the economic and taxation policies of the Modi government have significantly increased the financial burden on common citizens, particularly affecting middle-class and low-income families.
Pintu stated that the continuous rise in petrol and diesel prices is primarily the result of the Centre’s tax policies. He claimed that despite fluctuations and periods of decline in international crude oil prices, consumers in India have not received corresponding relief. According to him, high excise duties imposed by the Central Government have kept fuel prices elevated, directly impacting household expenses.
He further alleged that occasional minor reductions in fuel prices are merely symbolic and fail to provide meaningful relief to the public. The increase in fuel costs, he said, has triggered a rise in transportation expenses, which in turn has pushed up the prices of essential commodities and daily necessities.
Expressing concern over the increasing cost of LPG cylinders, Pintu said that the objective of providing affordable cooking gas under the government’s flagship scheme now appears to be weakening. He argued that rising cylinder prices and a complicated subsidy process have made it difficult for many economically weaker families to continue using LPG, forcing some to revert to traditional cooking fuels.
Highlighting the broader impact of inflation, he said that rising prices of food items, fuel, and household essentials have disrupted family budgets across the country. He urged the Central Government to take concrete steps to control inflation, reduce taxes, and introduce effective measures aimed at providing relief to the common people.
Pintu added that unless decisive action is taken soon, the growing inflationary pressure could have long-term adverse effects on both the economy and the standard of living of ordinary citizens.
