A sensitive and widely discussed incident came to light on Tuesday in Rajiv Nagar, Ward No. 43 of Rajnandgaon, where a dispute emerged over the funeral rites of a deceased member of a Yadav family.
According to information received, the family had earlier adopted Christianity. Following the death of a family member, preparations were underway to conduct the last rites at the Muktidham in Lakhola. Upon learning of this, office-bearers of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal objected to the proposal, citing religious customs associated with the cremation ground.
As the situation escalated, local residents, senior members of the Yadav community and representatives of various organisations gathered at the spot to deliberate on the issue. During extensive discussions, it was conveyed that permission for cremation at the Hindu Muktidham would be granted only if the family formally returned to the Hindu faith and agreed to perform the last rites as per Hindu traditions.
After prolonged deliberations, the entire Yadav family expressed consent to undergo a formal ‘Ghar Wapsi’ (reconversion) ceremony and pledged to re-embrace Hinduism. Following this, consensus was reached to proceed with the funeral.

The reconversion ceremony was conducted with full rituals, after which the cremation and ‘mitti’ rituals of the deceased were performed according to Hindu customs at the Lakhola Muktidham at around 4 pm on the same day.
VHP divisional coordinator Sunil Sen confirmed the developments and stated that the incident has sparked wider discussions within the society regarding the need for greater awareness and preservation of Hindu religious traditions and customs.
Notably, a similar incident had occurred nearly a year ago involving another Yadav family, where a member who had converted earlier faced social exclusion after the death of a close relative. Eventually, the individual chose to return to Hinduism and has since actively participated in traditional cultural and religious events, expressing gratitude towards community elders for guiding him back to the faith.
The latest incident continues to be a topic of discussion across Rajnandgaon, highlighting the complex intersection of faith, tradition, and community dynamics.
