A two-day orientation workshop titled Nagar Suraj Sangam, organized by the Chhattisgarh Department of Urban Administration and Development, was held in Raipur on May 5 and 6. The event was aimed at educating newly elected representatives of urban local bodies on key governance issues, development plans, and administrative frameworks.

The workshop was formally inaugurated on May 5 by Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Urban Administration and Development, Arun Sao. In his address, Mr. Sao presented a comprehensive five-year vision for the structured development of urban bodies in the state and introduced key government schemes, legal provisions, and civic regulations.
On the first day, mayors, commissioners, municipal presidents, and mayor-in-council members from across the state actively participated. Representing Rajnandgaon, Mayor Madhusudan Yadav, Municipal Commissioner Atul Vishwakarma, Municipal President Topendra Singh Paras Verma, and several members of the Mayor-in-Council were in attendance.
Deputy CM Sao emphasized that the people of Chhattisgarh have placed their trust in the current administration through the urban body elections, and it is now the responsibility of public representatives to live up to that trust. He explained that the core objective of the workshop was to align representatives with the state’s vision for urban development over the next five years. Using a PowerPoint presentation, Mr. Sao detailed government initiatives like the Swachh Bharat Mission, AMRUT Mission, and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. He also underscored the importance of environmental protection and rainwater harvesting.
Highlighting success models from larger cities like Indore, Mr. Sao urged urban bodies in Chhattisgarh to work innovatively and create a distinct identity for themselves. Dr. Basava Raju S., Secretary of the Urban Administration Department, also spoke on the operational aspects of urban bodies and key statutory provisions.

Mayor Madhusudan Yadav called the workshop a commendable initiative by the Urban Administration Department, saying it provided an excellent learning opportunity for newly elected representatives. He especially appreciated the presence and active participation of Deputy CM Sao throughout the sessions.
Other members of the Rajnandgaon Municipal Corporation, including the President and Mayor-in-Council members, echoed similar sentiments. They acknowledged the importance of such training programs in equipping local representatives with practical knowledge of government schemes and administrative procedures.
