In an effort to promote maternal health and child nutrition, the Government of India is successfully implementing the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) across districts like Rajnandgaon. This flagship initiative provides financial support to pregnant women for their first and second childbirths, encouraging regular health checkups and timely vaccinations.

Under the scheme, a total of ₹5,000 is disbursed in two installments for the birth of the first child. To receive the first installment, a woman must register at her local Anganwadi center and undergo at least one antenatal check-up within the first six months of pregnancy. The second installment is released upon birth registration of the child and completion of the first round of immunization.

Notably, if the second child is a girl, the mother is entitled to a one-time incentive of ₹6,000. This amount is also subject to the registration of the child’s birth and completion of the initial vaccination schedule, reinforcing the scheme’s commitment to supporting the birth of the girl child and combating gender bias.

To apply, beneficiaries must submit their application within 570 days from the Last Menstrual Period (LMP) date. The scheme mandates the seeding of the woman’s Aadhaar number with her bank account, ensuring direct benefit transfer (DBT) into her account. Applicants must also submit identity documents such as ration card, Ayushman Bharat card, e-Shram card, or MGNREGA job card, along with the maternal and child health card and bank details.

Women can register through Anganwadi workers, supervisors, or project officers from the Women and Child Development Department. For assistance, they may also contact the helpline number 14408 or download the official mobile app from: https://pmmvy.wcd.gov.in/apk/PMMVYsoft.apk.

This initiative continues to play a crucial role in ensuring safer pregnancies, healthier infants, and promoting the welfare of girl children across India.
