The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), launched by the Government of India to improve the health and nutritional status of pregnant women and lactating mothers, has emerged as a major welfare measure in the district.
Under the scheme, financial assistance is provided to compensate wage loss during pregnancy and after childbirth, enabling women to focus on their health and nutrition needs. In the last two years, nearly 12,100 pregnant and lactating women in Rajnandgaon district have benefited from the programme.
As per provisions of the scheme, eligible women receive ₹5,000 for their first live birth — split into two installments:
- ₹3,000 upon pregnancy registration and early antenatal care,
- ₹2,000 after the child’s birth registration and completion of the first immunization cycle, including BCG, Polio, DTP, and Hepatitis B vaccinations.
For the second child, if the newborn is a girl, a one-time assistance of ₹6,000 is provided after the completion of the first immunization cycle.
