A long-cherished dream came true for Shweta Bai and her husband Ratan Singh, residents of Bortalav village in Dongargarh block, as they received a newly constructed pucca house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY-Gramin). The house, along with a dedicated toilet facility, was formally handed over during a heartwarming housewarming ceremony attended by local public representatives.

Shweta Bai decorated her new home with mango leaf toran, balloons, and banana leaves on both sides of the door, proudly cutting the ribbon at the entrance in front of beaming villagers and well-wishers. Emotional and grateful, she expressed immense joy and relief, sharing how life had been difficult in their previous thatched mud house, especially during monsoons when water leakage and pests made living conditions harsh and unsafe.
The newly constructed concrete home has eliminated those anxieties, allowing the couple to now focus on their daily labor work without fear or discomfort. Shweta highlighted how having an in-house toilet has further improved their quality of life.
“This house has given us peace, dignity, and the ability to work without worrying about shelter or sanitation,” said Shweta, adding, “I never imagined I’d live in a concrete house. I’m thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai for turning this dream into reality through PMAY.”

Local representatives congratulated the family, praising the scheme’s impact in reaching even the most remote rural regions, and encouraged more eligible families to come forward and benefit from the government’s housing initiatives.
