With the objective of bringing qualitative improvement in sanitation services and promoting waste segregation at source, Municipal Commissioner Mr. Atul Vishwakarma chaired a review meeting of SLRM Centre in-charges. Keeping the upcoming Swachh Survekshan in view, he directed officials to ensure daily door-to-door waste collection and achieve 100 percent recovery of user charges.

The Commissioner stated that Swachhata Didis collect waste daily from households and carry out segregation at the SLRM Centres. However, in many cases, citizens hand over wet and dry waste mixed together, causing inconvenience in segregation. He emphasized launching a mass awareness campaign to educate citizens about cleanliness and waste segregation.

He explained that the core objective of the campaign is segregation of waste at the source, meaning wet waste should be disposed of in green bins and dry waste in blue bins at the household level. Citizens should also be encouraged to share feedback and actively participate in cleanliness initiatives.

During the meeting, SLRM Centre in-charges shared their field experiences, stating that some households do not initially segregate waste. In such cases, they counsel residents and demonstrate waste segregation outside their homes, which has shown positive results, with many residents now separating waste properly.

The issue of non-payment of user charges and demands for dustbins was also discussed. The Commissioner instructed all centre supervisors to conduct daily surveys of households, prepare lists of houses where user charges are pending, maintain proper records, and counsel residents. He clarified that user charges are essential for paying the wages of Swachhata Didis and sustaining sanitation services.

Mr. Vishwakarma further directed that waste received at SLRM Centres must be segregated on the same day, composting processes should be carried out efficiently, and the produced compost should be sold. He instructed that SLRM Centres be kept in proper condition and directed the PIU team to conduct daily inspections to ensure necessary arrangements.

He also ordered the repair of all non-functional vehicles, including faulty speakers. Each waste collection vehicle must play cleanliness awareness messages and songs, informing citizens to hand over waste from their homes and to keep wet and dry waste separately.

Citizens were urged to understand the importance of cleanliness, avoid the use of banned plastic carry bags, and refrain from dumping garbage or debris in drains and on roads. The Commissioner instructed officials to prepare a focused action plan to secure a better ranking in the upcoming Swachh Survekshan.

The meeting was attended by Health Officer Mr. Rajesh Mishra, Mission Clean City Assistant In-charge Mr. Pawan Kurre, District SBM Coordinator Mr. Devesh Sahu, Mr. Kirtan Sahu, and all SLRM Centre in-charges.
