Location: Rajnandgaon, India

With temperatures soaring above 44°C, Rajnandgaon has emerged as the hottest district in Chhattisgarh. In a swift and compassionate move, Mayor Madhusudan Yadav has initiated crucial relief measures aimed at safeguarding the well-being of the general public—particularly school-going children—amid the intensifying heatwave.

Demonstrating prompt leadership, Mayor Yadav wrote to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh, the Secretary of the School Education Department, and the District Collector of Rajnandgaon, urging them to temporarily close all government and private schools to prevent heat-related health risks among students.

Responding to his appeal, the School Education Department at Nava Raipur, after discussions with the Chief Minister’s Office, issued an official directive (Order No. F 3-2/2016/20-3 dated 22.04.2025) declaring summer vacations across all schools from April 25 to June 15, 2025.

In addition to educational relief, Mayor Yadav also contacted the Superintendent of Police, requesting the suspension of traffic signals between 11 AM and 4 PM to reduce commuter exposure to extreme heat. The proposal was well-received, and necessary instructions have been issued to implement this measure with immediate effect.

These timely interventions have been widely appreciated by citizens, as they address both physical discomfort and health hazards during the peak of summer. The Mayor’s initiative stands as a commendable example of local governance responding to environmental challenges with urgency and empathy.
