In compliance with the directives of the State Government, an Intensive Leprosy Case Detection Campaign is being conducted across Rajnandgaon district from December 8 to December 31, 2025. The initiative aims at early identification of leprosy cases and ensuring timely and effective treatment to prevent further transmission of the disease.
Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Netram Navratan stated that the primary objective of the campaign is to detect leprosy at an early stage and initiate prompt treatment, thereby moving closer to the goal of a leprosy-free society. He appealed to all citizens to extend full cooperation to the survey teams when they visit households and to ensure that all family members undergo screening.
Dr. Navratan emphasized that leprosy is a completely curable disease and does not spread through touch or handshakes. He also reiterated that free diagnosis and treatment for leprosy are available at all government health institutions in the district.

District Leprosy Officer Dr. Alpana Lunia informed that under the campaign, trained health teams comprising Rural Health Officers (RHOs) and Mitanins are conducting door-to-door surveys in all development blocks of the district. In rural areas, 15 to 20 households are being surveyed daily, while in urban areas, the coverage ranges from 20 to 25 households per day.
During the survey, suspected cases are being identified and provided Multi-Drug Therapy (MDT) at the initial stage itself to effectively control the spread of the disease. Citizens are advised to remain alert and seek medical consultation if symptoms such as numb patches on the skin, thickened or painful nerves, tingling sensations, or swelling and thickening of the ears and face are observed, as these may indicate leprosy.
