Citizens, Artists, Journalists, and Public Representatives Gather to Mourn the Passing of a Cultural Icon

The city of Rajnandgaon bid an emotional farewell to the late Alka Vyas, a revered figure in the field of devotional music and education. Alka Vyas, wife of senior journalist Rajendra Vyas and a beloved music teacher at Maharani Laxmibai Girls School, passed away suddenly on July 11. In a heartfelt tribute organized at Pushpanjali Sadan, a large gathering of citizens, journalists, cultural enthusiasts, and public representatives came together to honor her memory.

The ceremony featured renditions of bhajans composed and sung by Alka Vyas herself, filling the hall with a deep sense of spiritual reverence. Attendees paid floral tribute to her portrait, praying for her soul’s peace and strength for the bereaved family.
The school community paid glowing homage, stating that her contribution as a music teacher brought state and national recognition to the institution. Many of her students now hold esteemed positions across various sectors.

Former MLA Arun Vora recalled how her soulful bhajans were cherished by listeners in India and abroad, describing her as a warm, endearing personality. Senior journalist Rajeev Vora shared that Alka Vyas not only elevated the school’s music curriculum but also nurtured countless young talents. He reminisced about her deep devotion to Lord Vallabhacharya, with devotees eagerly awaiting her bhajan sessions in Champaran.
Tributes were also paid by former Women and Child Welfare Chairperson Shatabdi Pandey and bhajan maestro Gopal Bhai, who performed bhajans originally sung by Alka Vyas. Attendees hailed her as a spiritual and musical powerhouse whose legacy will remain etched in the hearts of many.

Among the prominent attendees were her children Ankit and Radhika Sharma, along with a large number of family members, social workers, school principals, media professionals, political leaders from both BJP and Congress, educationists, and senior officials from the police and district administration. The presence of community leaders like Mayor Madhusudan Yadav, former mayors, school directors, astrologers, and professors underscored the breadth of respect and admiration she commanded.
The overwhelming turnout was a testament to the fact that Alka Vyas was more than just a teacher or singer—she was a deeply revered figure who touched countless lives with her compassion, artistry, and devotion.
