At a Diwali Milan, oath-taking ceremony, and literary symposium organised by the Chhattisgarh Sahitya Srijan Samiti in Dongargaon on Friday, Member of Parliament Santosh Pandey said that “great poetry and literature provide direction to society.” Citing renowned poets like Ramdhari Singh ‘Dinkar’, Maithilisharan Gupt, and Makhanlal Chaturvedi, he underlined the enduring social relevance and transformative power of literature.
During the programme, a memorandum was submitted to the MP, urging the inclusion of the Chhattisgarhi language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. Pandey reiterated that he would raise the matter in Parliament.

The event was attended by Nagar Panchayat President Anju Tripathi, poet Shashikant Dwivedi, theatre artist Rakesh Tiwari, Lions Club President Amit Khandelwal, Atmaram Kosha, and several noted writers, poets, and folk artists.
Folk performers showcased traditional Chhattisgarhi forms such as Nacha, Gammat, Chandaini-Gonda, and Kaari, presenting a vivid glimpse of regional cultural vibrancy. Scholars including Dr. Santaram Deshmukh ‘Vimal’, Kuber Sahu, and Man Singh ‘Maulik’ spoke on literature and folk traditions.

The poetry session was conducted by Virendra Tiwari ‘Veeru’, while Gajendra Hariharno ‘Deep’ moderated the event. Distinguished guests and literary figures were felicitated with shawls, coconuts, and mementos.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Vice-President Sushma Shukla ‘Anshuman’, and Committee President Akhilesh Prasad Mishra ‘Akatya’ expressed gratitude to all participants.
