Under the tribal welfare-focused policies of the Chhattisgarh Government and the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Vishnu Deo Sai, continuous efforts are being made to identify and nurture the talents of children living in remote and tribal regions of the state. In this direction, a district-level summer sports training camp in Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district is creating new opportunities for children belonging to the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) Baiga community.

Children who have grown up amidst forests, hills and natural landscapes are now learning modern swimming techniques in a professional swimming pool, giving new direction and momentum to their dreams.

The special training camp has been organized by the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare at the swimming pool operated by the Municipal Council, Pendra. Priority has been given to children from the Baiga community residing in the remote forested areas of the Aspirational Development Block of Gaurela.

District administration officials and departmental teams personally visited villages to motivate Baiga families and encourage the participation of children in the camp.

New Experience Builds Confidence and Discipline

For children accustomed to rivers, streams and natural water bodies, training in a modern swimming pool is a completely new experience.

Beyond learning how to swim, participants are being introduced to the values of sports discipline, self-confidence and competitive sporting culture. The children undergoing training said they had never before practiced in such a large swimming facility and were excited to learn the technical aspects of the sport.

Many participants expressed their aspiration to become professional athletes and represent their region at higher levels of competition in the future.

National-Level Coaches Providing Professional Guidance

The summer camp is being conducted under the guidance of national-level swimming coaches who are training the children in advanced techniques and competitive formats.

Participants are receiving intensive instruction in freestyle, backstroke, butterfly stroke, breaststroke and medley events. Training sessions are being conducted twice daily, in the morning and evening, focusing on physical fitness, technical proficiency and overall athletic development.

According to the coaches, Baiga children possess natural physical strength, courage and a strong willingness to learn—qualities that can help them emerge as outstanding athletes in the years ahead.

Major Step Towards Tribal Empowerment

Children from the Baiga community often grow up in challenging geographical conditions, which contribute to remarkable endurance and physical resilience. Experts believe that with proper guidance, infrastructure and opportunities, they have the potential to excel at state, national and even international sporting events.

Tribal Youth Development Among Government Priorities

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Vishnu Deo Sai, the state government is expanding access to education, sports, healthcare and skill development opportunities across tribal regions.

The government’s objective is to ensure that no talented child from remote areas is left behind due to a lack of resources or opportunities. Bringing Baiga children into organized sports activities reflects the state’s inclusive development vision and commitment to empowering tribal youth.

Officials noted that participation in sports is helping these children develop stronger personalities, greater self-confidence and the determination to pursue ambitious goals.

A New Wave of Dreams

Children who were once largely confined to the forests and hills of remote regions are now confidently challenging the waters of a swimming pool and embracing new possibilities.

This transformation represents more than just sports training—it reflects the combined impact of a sensitive policy approach, committed administrative efforts and the dedication of the children themselves.

The summer sports training camp has emerged as a golden opportunity that could transform the lives of many Baiga children. The broader vision behind the initiative is to prepare future athletes who may one day represent Chhattisgarh and India on national and international platforms, bringing pride to their communities and the state.
