Taking forward the government’s vision of a self-reliant India, Energy Secretary and Chairman of the Chhattisgarh Power Distribution Company, Dr. Rohit Yadav (IAS), visited village Singhola under the Seva Parv campaign. Addressing local residents, he called upon electricity consumers to transform into “energy providers” by adopting the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, which he described as a “milestone in the country’s green energy journey.”
Dr. Yadav explained that under this scheme, households can install rooftop solar plants to generate their own electricity, thereby reducing their monthly bills to zero while contributing to a sustainable energy ecosystem. He added that once installed, the system could generate around 330 units per month, equivalent to savings of nearly ₹1,400–1,500 for an average family.

Central and State Support
Highlighting government initiatives, Dr. Yadav noted that the scheme offers bank loans at just 6% interest for 10 years, ensuring affordability for rural and urban households alike. The Central Government provides subsidies of ₹30,000 for 1 KW, ₹60,000 for 2 KW, and ₹78,000 for 3 KW rooftop solar plants. Strengthening the scheme further, the Chhattisgarh Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sahay, has added additional subsidies of ₹15,000, ₹30,000, and ₹30,000 for 1 KW, 2 KW, and 3 KW respectively. With both subsidies combined, households can avail up to ₹1.08 lakh in financial support.
“Through rooftop solar, every household can become self-sufficient in energy. Instead of depending on government schemes for relief in electricity bills, people will generate their own clean power and even sell surplus energy through net metering,” Dr. Yadav said, while urging villagers to actively participate.
Soaring Public Response
According to official data, applications and installations under the scheme have more than doubled since the state subsidy was introduced on June 18, 2025. Average monthly applications increased from 1,607 to 3,906, while rooftop solar installations rose from 337 to 744 per month.
So far, 58,500 applications have been received in Chhattisgarh, out of which 6,500 households have already installed rooftop solar systems and another 17,000 are under progress. In Rajnandgaon division alone, 6,928 applications have been approved, with 270 rooftop solar systems already installed and 226 currently being fitted. Notably, 186 households have already received direct transfer of combined Central and State subsidies.

Promoting Clean Energy Awareness
During the Singhola visit, Dr. Yadav and Distribution Company Managing Director Bhim Singh Kanwar interacted with villagers and inspected vendor stalls set up to demonstrate solar systems. They emphasized that rooftop solar not only ensures continuous, pollution-free electricity but also reduces household expenses significantly.
Dr. Yadav concluded his address with a powerful message:
“Every electricity consumer must become an energy provider. This is not just about saving bills—it is about shaping India’s energy independence. With rooftop solar, we can build a greener future and make households truly self-reliant.”
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of villagers, who expressed keen interest in adopting the scheme, reflecting the government’s growing success in spreading awareness about clean, renewable energy.
