Under the directives of District Collector Jitendra Yadav, the Food and Drug Administration’s Food Safety Wing has intensified surprise inspections across the district. Continuing this drive, a departmental team led by In-charge Officer Tarun Bidla conducted a sudden inspection at Ganesh Kirana Store located at Nandai Chowk, Rajnandgaon.

During the inspection, the team found a prohibited saffron-mixed food item, ‘Sitar’, stored for sale. The product was seized and its sample has been sent to the laboratory for testing. One sack of the banned material, valued at approximately ₹7,000, has been sealed and kept in the custody of the shop owner.
The inspection further revealed a large stock of expired items stored in an unhygienic and disorderly manner. Taking cognizance of the violations, the team ordered the shop to shut down temporarily and instructed the owner to resume business only after maintaining proper cleanliness. The department also issued a warning that failure to comply with food safety norms could result in cancellation of the shop’s food licence registration.

In another case, the team took action against Anil Trading, a wholesale distributor of soaps and detergents, whose operator was found selling tea leaves without a valid food licence. Samples were seized, and a case has been registered for operating without authorization. Further investigation is underway.
