As part of the Seva Parv observance, Chhattisgarh’s Energy Secretary and Chairman of the State Power Distribution Company, Dr. Rohit Yadav (IAS), visited Gram Panchayat Singhola where a special awareness camp was organized to promote the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme.

Dr. Yadav interacted with villagers at the Panchayat Bhawan and inspected stalls set up by vendors showcasing rooftop solar solutions. He urged citizens to actively participate in the initiative, emphasizing that rooftop solar plants can provide households with pollution-free, free, and uninterrupted electricity, while making consumers self-reliant in the energy sector and significantly reducing monthly expenses.

He explained that the government’s aim is to make solar energy affordable and accessible for all, so that households do not need to rely on subsidies alone but can themselves become “energy providers.” Through net metering, beneficiaries will also have the opportunity to sell surplus electricity back to the grid.

The central government has set a target of installing 1 crore rooftop solar plants nationwide by 2027, with Chhattisgarh contributing six lakh installations. To encourage adoption, the state government has announced generous subsidies:

  • ₹45,000 for a 1 kW system
  • ₹90,000 for a 2 kW system
  • ₹1,08,000 for a 3 kW system

Additionally, under the financing model, consumers are required to pay only 10% as a down payment, while the remaining 90% can be financed at 6% interest for up to 10 years. The scheme, with an estimated outlay of ₹1,800 crore, aims to transform ordinary electricity consumers into energy producers.

Dr. Yadav underscored that this initiative is not only about reducing household electricity bills but also about contributing to green energy adoption and environmental sustainability across the state.
