In a decisive move to improve traffic flow and ensure orderly movement in the city’s congested commercial zones, the Rajnandgaon district administration carried out an anti-encroachment drive in the Gudakhu Line area today. The operation comes after multiple rounds of dialogue with the Chamber of Commerce and local shopkeepers, aimed at voluntary compliance.

As per directives from Collector Dr. Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure, officials had earlier conducted a city-wide inspection and issued warnings to vendors and shop owners about keeping their goods within shop boundaries. Despite these efforts, continued violations prompted strict action.

Encroachment Cleared Gudakhu Line to Ease Traffic Congestion Anti-Encroachment Campaign

Today’s operation was spearheaded by Municipal Commissioner Atul Vishwakarma, SDM Khem Lal Verma, CSP Pushpendra Nayak, and Tehsildar Amiya Srivastava, accompanied by a police force and civic personnel. The team focused on Gudakhu Line and Azad Chowk, where illegal sheds and merchandise encroaching on roads and sidewalks were removed using manual labor and JCB machinery.

During the inspection, it was found that many shopkeepers had displayed goods outside their shops, some had items hanging outside, while others had extended metal and plastic sheds over public pathways—posing risks to commuters and creating traffic bottlenecks.

Officials seized materials that were still in place, while a few shopkeepers voluntarily removed their items. In instances of resistance, civic officers sensitively explained that such encroachments not only obstruct traffic but also pose safety hazards, dissuade customers due to parking difficulties, and ultimately harm business.

The administration reiterated that encroaching public space leads to accidents, mobility challenges, and deters potential buyers. They urged full cooperation from the business community to help make the marketplace safer and more accessible.

“The campaign is not a one-time event,” authorities warned, adding that non-compliance in the future will invite further action, including seizure of goods and removal of illegal structures.

The district administration affirmed that the anti-encroachment drive will continue in other parts of the city, ensuring that all commercial spaces operate within legal limits for the betterment of public infrastructure and urban mobility.
