DPS Rajnandgaon Girls’ ‘A’ Team Wins Silver at ACG Junior NBA National City League

Impressive performance by DPS girls at Prayagraj tournament; ‘B’ team reaches pre-quarterfinals

The Girls’ ‘A’ Basketball Team of Delhi Public School (DPS), Rajnandgaon delivered an outstanding performance at the ACG Junior NBA National City League, winning the silver medal at the national-level tournament held in Prayagraj. The team comprises players trained at the Sarvagya Rao Basketball Academy, known for nurturing young basketball talent in the region.

The prestigious tournament was held from January 11 to January 15 at the Amitabh Bachchan Sports Complex, Prayagraj. DPS Rajnandgaon’s ‘A’ team showcased remarkable skill and teamwork, defeating Seth Anandram Jaipuria School, Ghaziabad, and Sunbeam Suncity School, Varanasi, to advance to the pre-quarterfinal stage.

In the pre-quarterfinal, DPS defeated Holy Cross School, Kampa (Raipur) by 21–08 points, followed by a convincing 18–05 victory over St Joseph’s Girls School, Gorakhpur, in the quarterfinals. The team then edged past Prabhat Vidya Bharti High School, Ranchi, with a narrow 13–11 win in the semifinals to secure a place in the final.

Despite a determined fight in the final match, DPS Rajnandgaon lost to Mount Sharda School, settling for the silver medal in the competition.

Key contributors to the team’s success included captain Soumya Pandey, along with Ishika Sahu, Suruchi Toppo, and Harshita Lahkar, whose performances were widely appreciated.

Meanwhile, DPS Rajnandgaon’s Girls’ ‘B’ Team also performed commendably, reaching the pre-quarterfinals. The team registered wins against Sanskar International Public School, Prayagraj, and St Anthony Convent Girls Inter College, before being eliminated in the pre-quarterfinal round. Captain Darshana Bhattacharjee, Paavni Kodape, Tiksha Kanwar, and Anshika Tomar stood out for the ‘B’ team.

Both teams played under the guidance of Munnalal Jaiswal and Nandini in Prayagraj. The achievement was lauded by the DPS Rajnandgaon management, Principal Mrs. Nirmala Singh, the sports department, and sports enthusiasts, who congratulated the players and coaches for their success.

Notably, all DPS players regularly train at the Sarvagya Rao Basketball Academy, Rewadih, where they receive professional coaching from international basketball coaches Kalwa Rajeshwar Rao and Kalwa Radha Rao.
