The District Panchayat Rajnandgaon recently held a meeting of the General Administration Assembly, chaired by Mrs. Kiron Ravindra Vaishnav. The session commenced with an introduction of the respected members and officials present.

The meeting saw in-depth discussions on a wide range of topics, including the Agriculture, Public Health Engineering, Water Resources, Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme, Forest Department, Public Works, and the 15th Finance Commission’s work plan for 2024-25 and 2025-26. Additionally, discussions focused on the Food Department and other important subjects, with detailed deliberations on the Electricity Department, Education Department, CREDA, Chief Minister’s Village Road Scheme, Prime Minister’s Road Scheme, and other departmental initiatives.

One of the most crucial issues discussed was the ongoing water crisis in the district. Chairperson Mrs. Kiron Vaishnav expressed deep concern about the declining water levels and emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in water conservation efforts. She urged the public to implement water harvesting systems in homes and bore wells to preserve rainwater and combat future water shortages. She called for a campaign to raise awareness among the citizens and instructed officials to speed up the ongoing works under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

Further, she stressed the need to prioritize small rain-fed agriculture and ensure the successful implementation of agricultural schemes aimed at improving water availability for farmers. The discussion included the need for region-specific communication to reach farmers in their local languages and ensure they benefit from government schemes.

The Water Resources Department was directed to complete the repairs of canals, drains, and water reservoir gates to maximize rainwater conservation. Regarding road construction, relevant department heads were instructed to prioritize and send proposals accordingly.

In line with national priorities, all members unanimously supported the “One Nation, One Election” proposal. A detailed discussion on increasing tree plantation by the Forest Department was also held.

The session concluded with an appeal to focus on water conservation, with Mrs. Vaishnav thanking all members and officials for their participation. Key attendees included Mrs. Kiron Vaishnav, District Panchayat Chairperson; Mrs. Kiron Amar Sahu, Vice-Chairperson; District Panchayat officials; and representatives from various government departments, including the CEO of the District Panchayat, Suruchi Singh.
