Power utility advises residents to avoid damaged power infrastructure, report faults immediately and follow safety precautions during the rainy season

With the monsoon increasing the risk of electrical accidents due to moisture and waterlogging, the Rajnandgaon Region of the Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited (CSPDCL) has issued a public safety advisory urging consumers to exercise extreme caution during the rainy season.
The advisory has been issued for consumers in Rajnandgaon, Kabirdham, Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai and Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki districts.
According to CSPDCL, rainfall and high humidity significantly increase the risk of current leakage from electric poles, high-tension and low-tension power lines, transformers and household electrical wiring. The utility warned that even minor negligence under such conditions could lead to serious or fatal accidents.
The power distribution company has appealed to residents not to approach fallen electricity wires, damaged electric poles or locations where sparking is observed. Such incidents should be reported immediately through the toll-free helpline 1912, the Mor Bijlee mobile application or the nearest electricity distribution centre.

The advisory also cautions the public to stay away from power lines that may have fallen into rivers, streams or ponds.
Consumers have been advised not to operate electrical appliances with wet hands, not to energise fencing around agricultural fields, not to dry clothes on electric poles or stay wires, and not to undertake construction activities beneath overhead power lines.
The utility has also urged parents to ensure that children do not play near transformers or electric poles and advised consumers not to attempt repairs of electrical faults on their own.
In the event of an electric shock, the advisory recommends first disconnecting the power supply, then using dry wood, a rope or a dry cloth to separate the victim from the electrical source before immediately shifting the person to a hospital for medical treatment.
Chief Engineer of the CSPDCL Rajnandgaon Region, Harsh Kumar Meshram, said power utility personnel continue to restore electricity supply even under adverse weather conditions, including storms and heavy rainfall.
He appealed to consumers to cooperate with field staff and, in case of power outages, to wait for some time before registering complaints through the 1912 helpline. He also advised consumers not to tamper with electrical installations or equipment.
Mr. Meshram said public awareness and vigilance remain the most effective safeguards against electrical accidents and stressed that simple safety precautions can prevent serious incidents during the monsoon season.
