Municipal Commissioner G.R. Markam reviewed the functioning of the Revenue Department and assessed the progress of demand and tax collection during a review meeting held on Thursday.
Taking stock of the collection progress in accordance with directions issued during previous meetings, the Commissioner instructed officials to issue demand bills as per the revised demand and serve notices on major defaulters to ensure strict recovery.
He also honoured three Ward In-Charges for achieving good collection performance and appealed to taxpayers to pay their property tax by the end of July to avail the 6.25% rebate.

During the ward-wise review, Commissioner Markam said that revenue collection had gained momentum due to the implementation of directions issued in previous meetings. He acknowledged the efforts of Ward In-Charges but said that despite an increase in collection, the overall recovery had not yet reached the desired target.
He noted that collection remained weak in some areas and directed officials concerned to intensify their efforts. Revenue Officer Mobin Ali was instructed to issue a notice to Ward In-Charge Kabir Nayak for absence without permission.
Commissioner Markam directed Ward In-Charges to maintain the names and mobile numbers of taxpayers in their respective areas and contact them regularly for recovery. He said that since people remain occupied with their daily work, officials must ensure that collection is carried out by visiting taxpayers at their homes or establishments.
The Commissioner also directed officials to inform taxpayers about the 6.25% rebate available on property tax payments made by the end of July.
Major defaulters are to be served demand notices and counselled to clear their outstanding dues. Officials were instructed to inform defaulters that failure to make payment could lead to the publication of their names in newspapers, disconnection of water connections and attachment proceedings.
Commissioner Markam rewarded Ward In-Charges Deepankar Guru, Sanjay Sharma and Sumit Yadav for achieving good collection during the past week.

He said that similar collection efforts must be undertaken by all officials and directed those with low recovery figures to intensify their efforts. Officials were instructed to visit households daily, counsel taxpayers to clear their outstanding dues and encourage them to take advantage of the 6.25% property tax rebate available until the end of the month.
Revenue Officer Mobin Ali directed officials to visit their respective areas daily, distribute demand bills and undertake collection against them. He also instructed them to update postings, fill in Google Sheets and provide daily information to Revenue Sub-Inspectors.
Officials were further directed to prepare the remaining demands, rectify demand-related discrepancies and mandatorily collect the mobile numbers of taxpayers for online updating to facilitate online tax collection.
In-charge Executive Engineer Pranay Meshram, Assistant Revenue Officer Hitesh Thakur, Revenue Sub-Inspectors and Assistant Revenue Inspectors were present at the meeting.
