District Collector Jitendra Yadav on Thursday inspected the modern planetarium and space laboratory established at Dr. Padumlal Punnalal Bakshi School. During the visit, the Collector interacted with teachers and reviewed the advanced scientific equipment and models installed in the laboratory.

The space lab houses models of India’s major satellites, ranging from the country’s first satellite Aryabhata satellite launched in 1975 to recent missions like Chandrayaan programme. These models are designed to help students understand the fundamentals of space research and the technologies used in modern scientific missions.

Officials informed the Collector that the lab is equipped with a 3D printing machine, enabling the creation of models of satellites and space equipment. The facility also displays rovers and landers, through which teachers explained the design concepts and technical functioning involved in planetary exploration.

In addition, the lab includes a drone, which can help students learn about aerial surveying and technological testing methods. One of the major attractions of the facility is the Virtual Reality (VR) system, which allows students to experience astronomical phenomena, planetary movements, satellite orbits and space missions in an immersive virtual environment.

Speaking during the inspection, Collector Jitendra Yadav said the facility would significantly benefit students by providing practical exposure to space science, astronomy and physics. He noted that technologies such as 3D printing, drones and rover models would inspire students to develop interest in innovation, research and emerging technologies.

“The use of virtual reality will allow students to experience space missions and astronomical events in a manner that closely resembles real-life conditions,” the Collector said.
