Digvijay Stadium to Undergo Major Upgrades with ₹6 Crore Grant; AC Synthetic Badminton Court, Box Courts, and Squash Facility Proposed

In a major push to promote sports in Rajnandgaon district, Collector Dr. Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure chaired a crucial meeting of the Digdarshan Stadium Management Committee, emphasizing the need to expand sports facilities and nurture young talent, especially from underprivileged backgrounds.
The meeting, held at the stadium’s conference hall, was attended by Mayor and Committee Vice-President Mr. Madhusudan Yadav, District Panchayat Chairperson Mrs. Kiran Vaishnav, and other key officials and stakeholders.
Dr. Bhure revealed that the Chhattisgarh government has sanctioned ₹6 crore for the development of sports infrastructure in Digdarshan Stadium. The funds will be utilized to construct air-conditioned synthetic badminton courts as per international standards, box courts for cricket, basketball, tennis, and handball under the flyover bridge, and a new squash court within the stadium premises.

Highlighting revenue prospects, the Collector mentioned that the stadium committee could generate an annual income of approximately ₹70 lakh through rentals, which will further support the development of sports facilities across the district.
Key proposals include:
- Three AC synthetic badminton courts
- Box courts under the city flyover for multiple sports
- A synthetic kabaddi court
- Installation of floodlights and High-Mast lights at the AstroTurf Hockey Stadium
- A new multipurpose hall and centralized AC for badminton and basketball courts
- Improved sanitation, water supply, and safety measures including gates and boundary walls
Dr. Bhure also directed officials to take action against commercial tenants who have defaulted on rent payments for shops within the stadium complex. He instructed repairs of existing air conditioning systems and emphasized regular maintenance and cleanliness of the facility.
A proposal will be sent to the state government for the upkeep of both Digdarshan Stadium and the International AstroTurf Hockey Stadium. Additionally, the Public Works Department has been tasked with leveling the state school ground and enhancing civil infrastructure in and around the stadium.
Additional Collector and Committee Secretary Mr. Prem Prakash Sharma provided detailed insights into the approved budget, which includes air conditioning, electrification, and structural upgrades.
The meeting concluded with active participation and suggestions from various sports association representatives and government officials, all aligned toward making Rajnandgaon a thriving hub for sports.
