Growing incidents of thefts and violent crimes in Rajnandgaon have triggered widespread concern among the city’s trading community. In the wake of the recent burglary at Ganesh Medical and Naresh Watch Centre, located at the bustling Manav Mandir Chowk, the Chamber of Commerce on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police (SP), demanding swift action.
Led by District President Kamlesh Baid, a large delegation of traders met the SP, highlighting that despite the incident occurring in the heart of the city, no breakthrough has been made so far. “Such thefts in the central market area raise serious questions on law and order. If culprits are not arrested soon, traders will be left with no option but to launch an agitation,” warned Chamber leaders.
The SP assured the delegation that a special team has been formed to investigate the case and the culprits would be nabbed shortly.

Prominent members present included State Vice President Gyanchand Bafna, General Secretary Arun Dulani, Treasurer Shiv Agrawal, along with Ranu Jain, Bhiman Dhanwani, Harish Motlani, Sanjay Shrimal, Anil Parchani, Rahul Rohra, Raju Bhansali, Rajkumar Bafna, Devvrat Gautam, Narendra Sharma, Shyam Soni, Sanjay Sharma, Suresh Sharma, Gunjan Gupta, Brijesh Sharma, Lokendra Sahu, Ashok Motiramani, Kamal Punjwani, Bhupendra Vajpayee, and Prem Verma, besides a large number of business representatives.
The traders urged the police administration to take strict action against criminals and ensure a peaceful and safe environment for the city.
Meanwhile, political voices have also grown louder. The Congress Committee staged a protest over the spurt in crime, accusing the police of negligence. In a dramatic demonstration, party members not only handed over a memorandum but also attempted to present bangles to the police officials, symbolizing inaction. The protest was eventually diffused after CSP Pushpendra Nayak intervened and persuaded the agitators to disperse.
The rising graph of crime in Rajnandgaon—ranging from online fraud to drug abuse, and even three murders in a single day—has fueled public fear and raised questions over frequent transfers of district-level police officials. Both business leaders and opposition parties now demand urgent corrective measures to restore confidence in the administration.
