Renowned Mathematics Professor G.P. Srivastava Passes Away

Former HOD of Mathematics at Raipur Science College; Last Rites Performed at Mahadev Ghat

The academic fraternity mourns the demise of noted mathematics scholar and retired professor, Dr. Gayatri Prasad Srivastava, who passed away on Wednesday morning. Prof. Srivastava served as the Head of the Department of Mathematics at Raipur Science College and dedicated a major part of his career to Digvijay College, Rajnandgaon, where he became a respected and beloved mentor.

A prolific writer, Prof. Srivastava authored 36 textbooks for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in mathematics, which continue to be used across various universities in India. His scholarly work left a significant impact on generations of students. His elder daughter, Dr. Madhu Srivastava, is currently serving as a Professor of Mathematics at Raipur Science College, further carrying forward his academic legacy.

The funeral procession commenced from his residence in D.D. Nagar, Raipur, and proceeded to Mahadev Ghat Cremation Ground on Thursday, 30 October at 10:30 AM. A large number of colleagues, admirers, and former students from Rajnandgaon and Raipur attended to pay their respects. Among those present were Chamber of Commerce and Udayachal Patron Inderchand Kothari, retired Deputy Police Director A.K. Tiwari, retired IAS officer Dinesh Kumar Srivastava, retired I.G. Vineet Khanna, retired SAIL DGM H.K. Tiwari, Sanjeev Bakshi, Rajesh Nashine, Purushottam Tiwari, Rajkumar Agrawal, Rajesh Singhi, Aditya Khare, and other distinguished personalities.

Prof. Srivastava was widely known in Rajnandgaon as “G.P. Sir,” admired not only for his academic brilliance but also for his gentle, humble nature. His passing has created a profound sense of loss in the region’s educational community. Several prominent educators, industrialists, and former students, including Professor R.P. Dixit, Chamber Patron Inderchand Kothari, industrialist Ramavatar Rungta, Purushottam Tiwari, Rajkumar Agrawal, Rajesh Singhi, Deepak Tiwari, and Aditya Khare expressed deep condolences and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
