In a unique initiative for water conservation, the district administration today launched the ‘Bori Bandhan’ programme under the Mor Gaon–Mor Pani campaign, led by the District Panchayat and the Panchayat & Rural Development Department.

So far, more than 30 streams, particularly secondary and tertiary channels, have been treated under the Bori Bandhan technique. The initiative has seen enthusiastic participation from public representatives, youth, women, and villagers, who have contributed through shramdaan (voluntary labor) to strengthen local water resources.

Officials highlighted that the Bori Bandhan method is an effective way to conserve rainwater, prevent soil erosion, improve groundwater levels, and enhance irrigation potential. The administration stressed that water conservation is not solely a government responsibility but a collective duty of every citizen, calling for widespread community involvement.

“The strength of such initiatives lies in community ownership. When people participate directly, awareness grows, responsibility increases, and long-term sustainability is ensured,” the administration said. Through voluntary labor and community unity, cost-effective and lasting solutions to local water challenges can be achieved.
