In a strong display of faith and devotion during the sacred month of Shravan, a group of 60 Shiva devotees from Chhuriya and surrounding villages will set out for their annual pilgrimage to Baba Baidyanath Dham in Deoghar, Jharkhand, on August 2.

The Kanwar Yatra is being organized under the leadership of Deepak Sinha and Golu Sinha, with coordination and arrangements overseen by local devotee Ram Sahu. Speaking to reporters, Ram Sahu shared that this pilgrimage has become a yearly spiritual tradition for the region’s devotees.

The journey begins at Sultanganj in Bihar, where the pilgrims will collect holy water from the Ganges River. From there, they will undertake a rigorous 120-kilometre barefoot walk to the Baidyanath temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The devotees, known as Kanwariyas, will chant “Bol Bam” throughout their journey, creating a spiritually charged atmosphere along the route.

“Every year, we perform this Yatra with great devotion,” said Ram Sahu. “It is not just a journey but a sacred offering to Lord Shiva during the holy month of Shravan. With the same zeal and energy, we will carry Ganga water to Baba Baidyanath and perform Jalabhishek.”

Preparations for the Yatra, including transport arrangements to Sultanganj and provisions for the foot journey, are in full swing. The group will be seen off with traditional prayers and blessings from the local community.

The Baidyanath Dham Kanwar Yatra draws lakhs of devotees from across India each year, and the participation of the Chhuriya contingent reflects the deep-rooted religious and cultural traditions that continue to thrive in the region.
