In a significant boost to child welfare initiatives in Chhattisgarh, the Rajnandgaon district has been organizing the innovative Potth Laika Chaupal every Thursday at all its Anganwadi centres. On July 17, 2025, this unique program took center stage at Anganwadi Centre No. 4 in Somni, Rajnandgaon development block, where officials from UNICEF India, visiting from Delhi, participated in the event. This visit underscores the growing recognition of the district’s efforts to enhance early childhood development through community-driven activities.

The Potth Laika Chaupal is a vibrant platform designed to engage young children, their families, and the community in interactive sessions that promote nutrition, health, and early education. The initiative aligns with the objectives of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), which focuses on improving the health and development of children under six, as well as supporting pregnant and lactating mothers. The presence of UNICEF India officers highlights the program’s success in fostering holistic child development and its potential as a model for other regions.
During the event, the visiting officials observed the engaging activities conducted by Anganwadi workers, including growth monitoring, nutrition education, and play-based learning sessions, which are tailored to stimulate cognitive and motor skills in young children. The Chaupal also serves as a community hub, encouraging parents and locals to actively participate in their children’s growth and well-being. The UNICEF team commended the dedication of the Anganwadi workers and the district administration’s efforts to strengthen grassroots-level child welfare programs.
