Following a sharp rise in the Mohara River’s water level due to heavy rainfall and the release of water from Mogra Barrage, Mayor Madhusudan Yadav, along with Municipal Commissioner Atul Vishwakarma and other officials, inspected the Shivnath River and water treatment plant. During the inspection, Mayor Yadav directed the Water Resources Department to open all gates of the river once the water level recedes to prevent sediment buildup and improve water storage.

Mayor Inspects Mohara River and Water Treatment Plant Amid Rising Water Levels Anicut Inspection

Executive Engineer of the Water Resources Department, Nilesh Ramteke, informed that 15 gates had already been opened. However, due to the rising water level, the remaining gates could not yet be released. The Mayor stressed that the anicut should be monitored daily and that timely action must be taken to open the rest of the gates when safe.

He noted that silt and sand accumulation has reduced the river’s capacity due to years of neglect in gate operation. Opening all gates will allow the river to self-cleanse, increasing its water storage potential—crucial for ensuring adequate water supply during summer.

Mayor Yadav also mentioned the recent removal of silt and waste near the anicut using chain-mounted equipment during the summer. He urged officials to prioritize the inspection, cleaning, and repair of the anicut to facilitate sufficient water retention.

Addressing the issue of water supply, the Mayor stated that the city had been receiving water thrice every two days due to low river levels. However, with improved storage conditions, a return to twice-daily water supply would soon be feasible.

During his visit to the water treatment facility, Mayor Yadav reviewed operations and stock availability. Commissioner Vishwakarma reported that all staff are performing their duties across three shifts, and minor equipment faults are being repaired promptly. Employees have also been instructed to remain alert in the event of flood-like conditions.

He also ordered arrangements for rapid drainage in case of floodwater entering the plant.

Present at the inspection were SDO Kiran Ramteke, Assistant Engineer Garima Verma, Sub-Engineer Anup Pandey, and plant staff.
