As part of the district-wide “Water Conservation Mega Campaign,” the Rajnandgaon Municipal Corporation will organize a symbolic and awareness-driven ‘Jal Yatra’ on Wednesday, June 11, in an effort to alert the public about the critical importance of saving water amid the planet’s worsening water scarcity.

The yatra will begin at 2:30 PM from Gayatri Mandir and will be led by Padma Shri Fulbasan Yadav, accompanied by women from self-help groups carrying traditional pots and placards emphasizing water’s value. The march will pass through Bharat Mata Chowk, Azad Chowk, Mahakal Chowk, and Jay Stambh Chowk, concluding at Gandhi Sabhagrah, where a formal ceremony will be held.

Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Speaker and Rajnandgaon MLA Dr. Raman Singh will attend the closing ceremony as the chief guest. He will be joined by Member of Parliament Santosh Pandey and several other senior public representatives.

Mayor Madhusudan Yadav, while appealing to citizens to participate in large numbers, noted that freshwater availability on Earth is rapidly decreasing, leading to droughts, diseases, pollution, and climate change. He stressed the urgency of raising awareness as many people still lack a full understanding of the importance of water conservation.

“The Jal Yatra is a public movement,” Mayor Yadav stated, “and a call to action for every citizen. Let us unite in this mission to protect our water sources.”

The mayor has invited councillors, public representatives, journalists, women, and general citizens to assemble at Gayatri Mandir by 2:30 PM on June 11 to join the yatra and lend their voices to this crucial environmental cause.
