In view of rising concerns over seasonal diseases during the monsoon, Collector Dr. Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure chaired a District Task Force meeting to strategize on prevention efforts against diarrhea, dengue, malaria, and filariasis. He announced the implementation of “Stop Diarrhea Campaign 2025” from June 16 to July 31, aimed particularly at reducing mortality in children under five.

The campaign will involve door-to-door visits by Mitanins, Anganwadi workers, and assistants to distribute ORS packets and zinc tablets, along with demonstrations on how to prepare ORS and wash hands properly.

The Collector emphasized, “Prevention is the key. With monsoon diseases on the rise, proactive public health measures and personal hygiene are essential.” He instructed health centers to maintain anti-snake venom stocks and called on schools to educate students about handwashing techniques.

Instructions were issued to the Municipal Corporation for intensified sanitation activities in urban areas, especially to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds and ensure proper drainage. Dr. Bhure also appealed to the public to take preventive precautions and maintain hygiene in homes and surroundings.

Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Netaram Navratan provided detailed insights into dengue prevention, noting that Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, which transmit dengue, breed during the day and thrive in stagnant water. He advised emptying unused water containers, weekly cleaning of coolers, using mosquito nets, and applying burnt oil to water pits to suffocate mosquito larvae.

Public awareness initiatives like wall writings, workshops, Mitanin Yatras, and school sessions will promote safe hygiene practices. ORS and zinc corners will be set up at all health centers, and handwashing demonstrations will be conducted at schools, Anganwadi centers, and outreach sessions (VHNDs).

Dr. Navratan also cautioned that Aedes aegypti is a vector for not just dengue but also chikungunya, Zika, and other viral diseases, and emphasized early medical consultation in case of fever symptoms.

The meeting was attended by District Panchayat CEO Ms. Suruchi Singh, Additional Collectors Mr. C.L. Markandeya and Mr. Prem Prakash Sharma, Municipal Commissioner Mr. Atul Vishwakarma, SDM Rajnandgaon Mr. Khem Lal Verma, SDM Dongargaon Mr. Manoj Markam, SDM Dongargarh Mr. Shrikant Korram, and other senior officials.
