A significant step towards women’s empowerment and economic self-reliance has been achieved in Somni village of Rajnandgaon development block, where the construction of a Mahtari Sadan costing ₹24.70 lakh has been completed under the Chief Minister’s Samagra Gramin Vikas Yojana.
The newly constructed facility is expected to provide rural women with a dedicated space to organise themselves, develop skills and explore livelihood opportunities. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, the initiative aims to strengthen women’s participation in social and economic activities and create opportunities for greater self-reliance.
Dedicated Facility for Women’s Self-Help Groups
The Mahtari Sadan was approved during the financial year 2024–25 under the Chief Minister’s Samagra Gramin Vikas Yojana. With construction now complete, women in Somni will have access to a permanent building for meetings, livelihood-related training, self-employment activities and awareness programmes.
Once operational, the facility will enable women’s self-help groups to meet regularly, discuss their economic activities and plan future initiatives in an organised environment. It is also expected to provide a platform for collective discussions on savings, skill development and livelihood enhancement.

A New Opportunity for Self-Reliance
For women in Somni, the Mahtari Sadan represents more than a new building. It offers a dedicated space where they can work together to identify their skills, explore income-generating activities and contribute to strengthening their families’ financial circumstances.
The facility can support activities related to savings, self-employment, skill development and livelihood promotion. It will also provide space for programmes that raise awareness about government welfare schemes, health and nutrition, as well as other social initiatives.
By bringing women together under one roof, the centre is expected to encourage cooperation and help self-help groups discuss common challenges and opportunities.
Strengthening Women’s Participation in Rural Development
The completion of the Mahtari Sadan marks an important achievement in rural infrastructure development and women’s empowerment in Somni village.
Its operation is expected to encourage mutual support, collective decision-making and greater social participation among women. The facility will offer a supportive environment for women to develop their abilities, acquire new skills and pursue self-employment opportunities.
The initiative aims to strengthen the foundation for women’s self-reliance and community development in the village. In the coming years, the Mahtari Sadan has the potential to emerge as a centre for women’s unity, confidence and economic empowerment.
